Facebook has grown into a giant social network today defeating Myspace and Orkut. It has many unique features which both of these social networks lack. Also, the “Connect with Facebook” and Facebook Share and Like buttons did the trick for Facebook. But, there’s also another feature which most Facebookers neglect – The Poke feature. In fact, many of the Facebookers don’t even know what a Poke is???
Facebook explains the Poke meaning as:
The poke feature can be used for a variety of things on Facebook. For instance, you can poke your friends to say hello. When you poke someone, a poke icon will appear on his or her Home page with the option to “Remove Poke” or “Poke Back.”
So, in simple words, Facebook Poke is a normal Facebook convention of saying “Hi”. Isn’t that simple??? Yes!!! It happens many times with us that we want to contact a particular friend on Facebook, but when we visit his profile, we find ourselves blank. We get confused whether to message him, to post on his wall or to do something else. But simply messaging or posting “Hi” on anyone’s wall sounds weird. So, it is at such times, we can just Poke him to make him feel our presence on Facebook.
Poking may appear to be pretty old and weird at first. Even it appeared to me. But, then I read Brenna Ehrlich’s column on Mashable and decided to give it a try. Since then, I am a regular poker and in fact, I have categorized some of my friends as my “Poke Friends”. Here are some of those:

So friends, if you haven’t tried out the “Poke” feature yet, start right now!!! You will be really amazed to see people responding and finally becoming your “Poke Friends”. Also,always “Poke Back” to your friends’ pokes. We are on Facebook for something unique and Poke provides the same.
